Hello, I am George Santayana, philosopher, essayist, and poet. One of my most quoted observations is this:

“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

It is a warning and a truth, meant to remind us of the vital importance of history in shaping our decisions and avoiding the pitfalls of our predecessors. When I wrote these words in The Life of Reason in 1905, I sought to emphasize that human progress depends on learning from the experiences of those who came before us. History, when properly remembered, is a guide. It teaches us the consequences of greed, the dangers of unchecked power, the folly of ignorance, and the enduring value of justice and freedom. Forgetting these lessons leaves us vulnerable to repeating humanity’s worst mistakes.
