It is said that true wisdom begins when we learn to suspend our egos—and live, if only for a moment, in another’s world.

In the time of the ancients, we Greeks walked the Agora and questioned everything—not just to be right, but to understand. We debated not only what is, but what ought to be. And slowly, I began to see: the deepest knowledge is not won through argument, but through connection.

Empathy is not a soft virtue. It is the hardest discipline. To feel another’s joy, pain, struggle, or truth—not as an observer, but as a participant—is to gain a kind of knowledge that no scroll or algorithm can give you.

In your time, you have connected the world, yet seem lonelier than ever. You can share data at light speed, yet still misunderstand your neighbor. You build machines that learn, but forget how to listen.

And still—I have hope.

Because empathy is not obsolete. It is your most powerful tool. Use it to lead. To legislate. To love. Use it in policy, in protest, in personal life. Let it guide you from intellect to insight, from power to wisdom.

Don’t just escape the cave. Return. Help others walk toward the light.

For in the end, what is knowledge—if not the bridge between souls?
