An educated, enlightened, and informed population is one of the surest ways of promoting the health of a democracy. - Nelson Mandela

Hello, I am Nelson Mandela.

I once said,

“An educated, enlightened, and informed population is one of the surest ways of promoting the health of a democracy.”

These words stem from my own experiences fighting for justice, equality, and freedom in South Africa, and they remain as relevant today as they were during my lifetime. When I spoke these words, I was reflecting on the power of knowledge to challenge oppression.

Under apartheid, education was systematically denied to the majority population because the oppressors understood that ignorance sustains inequality. Knowledge, however, has the power to liberate—it empowers people to see through lies, organize for change, and demand accountability.

My journey, and the journey of South Africa, would not have been possible without the courage of individuals who refused to remain in the darkness of ignorance.
